In an Autodesk Civil 3D drawing, a site is used to collect or group sub-collections, such as plots, alignments and gradings, by a topology that they share.
When objects that are grouped under the Sites collection are exported to a LandXML file, the site name is exported with them.
When objects are imported from a LandXML file into the drawing, you can use the following site selection lists in the Import LandXML dialog box to specify the destination sites for objects.

Alignments Site specifies the site on which the alignments will reside. The default selection is <none>, which places the alignments in the top-level Alignments collection and prevents them from interacting with plots.

Parcels Site specifies the site on which the plots will reside. If no sites exist in the drawing, the plots are placed on the default site (Site 1). If the LandXML file has a site name for its features, then that site name is created in the drawing and the plots are assigned to it.

Feature Lines Site specifies the site on which feature lines will reside. The default selection is <none>, which places the feature lines in the top-level Feature Lines collection.
Note: There is also a setting on the
Import tab of the LandXML Settings dialog box that provides an additional option for specifying the site for feature lines. If you select the
Site in Source File option in the LandXML Settings dialog box, the feature lines are added to the site found in the source file. If you select the
Site Specified in the Import LandXML Dialog Box option, the feature lines are added to the site specified in the Import LandXML dialog box.
- You can also use a setting on the Import tab of the LandXML Settings dialog box to specify a site for feature lines that are created when importing surface breaklines. If you choose to create breaklines as feature lines, you can specify a site using the Feature Lines Site setting.
