To Export a Drawing to AutoCAD

Note: The Export Civil 3D Drawing command, introduced in the Autodesk® AutoCAD® Civil 3D® 2014 Productivity Pack 1, can be used to export multiple drawings to either AutoCAD® DWG or MicroStation® DGN format.

You can use the ExportToAutoCAD command to export a drawing created in Autodesk Civil 3D to AutoCAD. This process creates a new AutoCAD drawing with all civil objects exploded to AutoCAD primitives. The original drawing is not affected.

When you open the resulting drawing, the primitive objects are not restored to their original state.

  1. Verify that the drawing’s Model tab is selected.
  2. Set up your drawing so that all objects that you want to export are visible. Only those objects that are visible will be exported.
  3. Select a viewport to make it active. Only the objects in the active viewport are exported.
  4. At the command line, enter UCS, and then enter World.
  5. At the command line, enter Options to display the Options dialog box.
  6. Click the AEC Editor tab, specify the Export To AutoCAD settings, and then click OK.
  7. At the command line, enter ExportToAutoCAD.
Note: If you want to change settings at the command line, you can use the -ExportToAutoCAD command (with a hyphen in front of the command name). You can also use different versions of the command, such as ExportToAutoCAD2013, to export to specific drawing versions. When you type ExportToAutoCAD into the command line window, the available versions of the command are displayed in a list for you to choose from.
  8. In the Export Drawing Name dialog box, specify the location for the drawing and the file name.
  9. Click Save.
