Import Points Dialog Box

Use this dialog box to specify options before you import points from an ASCII (text) file or a Microsoft® Access database (.mdb) file.

Add Files: Opens the Select Source File dialog box. Browse to the folder where the point data file to be imported is located. Select the file name, and click Open.

Note: You can select multiple files to import.
Remove Files: Removes the selected file from the Selected Files list.

Specifies the format of the point data in the file. Select the appropriate point file format to use.

Note: If you select a point file format that doesn't match the selected point file, a warning icon

is displayed next to the point file name in the Selected Files list.

Point Format: Opens the Point File Formats dialog box. Select a point file format, edit a point file format, or create a new point file format to use when importing the point data.
Filter: Turns the file format filter off or on. When the filter is turned on, after you select a point file, the Specify Point File Format list is filtered to show the file types that are potential matches for the file that you selected.

Displays a preview of the selected point file based on the specified point file format.

Add Points to Point Group

Specifies whether the imported points are added to a point group:

Selected: Adds the imported points to the specified point group and to the _All Points point group.
Cleared: Adds the imported points only to the _All Points point group.

Add Points To Point Group

Specifies the point group to which imported points are added when is selected.

Opens the Point File Formats - Create Group dialog box. Specify a point group name.

Do Level Adjustment If Possible: Specifies that level adjustments are performed during import. The point file format must contain Z+, Z-, or Thickness columns. For more information, see To Adjust Point Level During Import and Transfer.
Do Coordinate Transformation If Possible: Specifies that coordinate transformations should occur during import. The point file format must have a coordinate zone assigned to it, and the current drawing must have coordinate zone and transformation information defined. The points that are imported are transformed to match the zone of the current drawing.
Do Coordinate Data Expansion If Possible: Specifies that coordinate data properties of the points, such as degrees, minutes, seconds, and hemisphere for latitude and longitude, should be calculated if possible. These values are calculated from known coordinate data information contained in the point data file, such as grid northing and grid easting.
