About Rotating Labels in a Drawing

Use grips to rotate labels.

When a label is rotated in the drawing, the baseline (or, zero position) of the label rotation reference vector is relative to the horizontal direction of the label while in the as composed state.

The reference vector zero position changes depending upon how the orientation reference setting is defined in the label style:

Label Style Orientation Reference Setting Reference Vector Zero Position
Object Aligned with object view direction
View Horizontal view direction
World Coordinate System Aligned with the X-axis of the drawing

Only unanchored labels may be rotated in the drawing. For more information, see About Labels and Tags.

When a label is in its As Composed state, the Rotation Angle setting within the label style controls whether a label component is rotated by default. If you manually apply a rotation angle to a label, the resulting rotation angle will be the component Rotation Angle, plus the angle by which you manually rotate the label. For more information, see To Specify the Rotation of Label Style Components.
