Collisions in the Model

Collision checks can help track down overlapping duplicate members, members with no connections, problem connections and general collision situations.

The program performs various checks:

Advance Steel provides a set of tools for finding collisions.

Clash Check Checks for collisions in beams, plates, and bolts for an entire model or a selection set. The list of collisions is displayed in a dialog box.
Display checking result Displays the collision solids for a particular collision by entering its index number.

The Clash Check Tool

This tool checks for collisions in beams, plates, and bolts for an entire model or a selection set.

Access the command

In the Extended Modeling tab Checking panel, click (Clash Check).

Command line: _AstM5CheckCollision

Collision Solid

The clash volume is displayed in red in the model. You should be able to see what is wrong and make the necessary corrections in the model.

Note: Correcting one clash may fix several other clashes. Collision solids are not created directly since there can be many. You can display the collision solid of a selected collision.

Workflow

  1. Check the model for collisions.
  2. Keep the list of collisions displayed.
  3. Display the collision solids one by one.
  4. Fix each found collision.
  5. Check the model for collisions.
Tip: Run the clash check after every one or two corrected collisions.
