Create Connection by Template

Copy an existing template connection to other locations in the 3D model.

Create a New Connection by Template

You copy an existing connection to other new locations. At the new insertion position you need to select the same elements as the elements included in the connection to copy. The connections are transferred with all the previously made settings. These settings refer only to the parameters that can be changed by the insertion function.

Note: As the new connection has the same parameters as the first one, the connection properties dialog box does not appear during the connection creation.

Access the command

In the Tools tool palette, click (Create by template).

Command line: _AstM4TransferCons

Create connections by template

  1. In the Tools tool palette, click (Create by template).
  2. Select one of the elements of the existing connection you want to copy (or the connection object) and press Enter.
  3. Select the elements to connect by the connection function. For a base plate this is only the column, for a splice these are the beams that are to be spliced.

One by one, place as many connections as necessary. Press Enter to finish the command.

Note: All created connections remain independent from one another.

Create Multiple Connections by Template

You copy an existing connection to other locations at the same time. The connections are created all at once, with identical parameters as the original one. The connection box will not be displayed.

To use the command

Before starting the multiple copy, notice what elements are connected by the connection you want to copy and what is the order in which they should be selected. During the multiple copy the elements to be connected must be selected in the same order.

Tip: More details about a connection (such as selection order, profiles of the connected element etc.) are available in the Connection Vault descriptions for each connection type. For example, on a double Sided End Plate, the first selected element is the main beam and the second selected element is the secondary beam (the beam to connect). During multiple copy, you should select all the main beams of all the desired locations that you wish to copy, then one secondary beam in each location that you want to copy the connection to. The connections are placed at every possible location within the selection (all at once).
