Special Parts

Special parts are parts, such as turnbuckles, used in the Advance model and in the structured bills of material or drawings, that cannot be created from other Advance objects.

Creating special parts

Special parts must be designed in separate DWGs and created as Advance objects using the Advance Steel special part tool. Some special parts are created using connection rules as in the case of bracings with turnbuckles.

A special part can be created at any scale. When Advance checks for identical parts, different scales for the same special part are not considered. This means that a special part can get the same position number at different scales. It is recommended to draw and create special parts at full scale (1:1).

Note: Special parts can be welded and bolted to other Advance objects. Bolt grip lengths cannot be calculated for special parts unless the default is set to do so.

Special part bounding box

Like connections, the information for special parts is stored in bounding boxes. To move a special part, you must select the box. This is automatically done upon selecting a special part object.

To display the box: In the Extended Modeling tab Joint Utilities panel, click (Display).

Special part behavior

The information for special parts is exported to the structured BOM and it is considered during drawing creation.

The defaults can be modified to define whether or not the special part should be included in a collision check.
