The Migrate Custom Settings utility simplifies the process of migrating custom settings and files from a previous release to the current release.
While the Migrate Custom Settings utility does simplify the migration process, based on how your environment is setup you might want to control which specific custom settings and files are migrated.
For control over which custom settings, files, or parts of files to be migrated, see the following:

User Profiles. All user profiles in the previous release are migrated. If you do not want to migrate all user profiles, use the Profiles tab in the Options dialog box to export each profile from the previous release and import those profiles that were exported into the current release. (User Profiles are not available in AutoCAD LT.)
Note: It is not recommended to import a profile that was exported from a different version of the product. For example, do not export a profile from the AutoCAD Electrical program and import it into the AutoCAD program.

Changes to the User Interface. The Migrate Custom Settings utility migrates the MNU, MNS, CUI, or CUIx files associated with the user profiles from the previous release; the file is specified under the Main Customization File setting. The customization files are migrated to the current release and the identified changes to the customization files that shipped with the previous release are merged with the file of the same name in the current release, as needed. While the Migrate Custom Settings utility does not migrate the CUIx file specified under the Enterprise Customization File node setting, the reference to the file is migrated to the current release.
Note: Only menu or customization files that are part of a user profile or loaded as a partial customization file in a CUI or CUIx file are migrated with the Migrate Custom Settings utility. Any other menu or customization files are not migrated automatically.
If you want to control which user interface elements are migrated to the current release, use the Transfer tab of the Customize User Interface (CUI) Editor.

Custom Files. The Migrate Custom Settings utility merges the changes made to the linetype (LIN), hatch pattern (PAT), and program parameter (PGP) files that shipped with the previous release with the files of the same name in the current release. If you do not want all the changes made to these files, you will need to edit each file individually using an ASCII text editor.
Note: ACTM, ARX, CRX, DBX, DLL, DVB, JS, LSP, MNL, and VLX files are not migrated. These files need to be updated and migrated manually to the current release.

Tool Palettes and Tool Palette Groups. The Migrate Custom Settings utility can migrate both tool palettes and tool palette groups to the current release. User-defined tool palette files are copied to the current release and the changes to tool palette files that shipped with AutoCAD 2010-based products or later are merged with the tool palette files of the same name in the current release. If migrating from an AutoCAD 2009-based products or earlier, only user-created tool palettes are migrated; changes made to the tool palettes that shipped with the product must be recreated. Along with the migration of tool palettes, user-defined tool palette groups are migrated from the previous release to the current release.
If you do not want to migrate all tool palettes or tool palette groups from a previous release, you can manually export and import those you want to keep from the previous release into the current release with the Customize dialog box (CUSTOMIZE command). In the release you are migrating from, display the Customize dialog box and selectively export the tool palettes and tool palette groups that you want to migrate to the current release. Then, in the current release of the product, use the Customize dialog box to import the tool palettes and tool palette groups that were exported.
Caution: Do not manually copy tool palette (ATC) files from one release folder to another, this could cause problems when migrating tool palettes in the future.
