To Add Subassembly PKT Files to a Tool Palette

To access the PKT subassemblies that are included in Civil 3D, add them to a tool palette by importing them.

Note: Subassembly PKT files created with the Subassembly Composer can also be imported into the drawing from the Subassemblies collection in the Prospector tree rather than importing it to a tool palette first. For more information, see To Import Subassembly PKT Files Into a Drawing.

To import subassembly PKT files

1. Click Insert tab Import panel Import Subassemblies Find.
2. In the Import Subassemblies dialog box, click the browse button , and navigate to the location of the PKT files.
3. If you want to reference the PKT files from their existing location, such as a LAN or Autodesk Docs, select the Link Directly to .PKT Files check box. This allows you to keep the subassemblies in one location for all users. For more information, see To Work With Shared PKT Files and Update them in a Drawing.

   If you want to import the PKT files into the ProgramData folder, clear the Link Directly to .PKT Files check box. The PKT files are installed by default to Imperial and Metric folders in the following location: C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\C3D 2024\enu\Subassemblies\.

   Note: On some computers, the ProgramData folder may not be visible. For more information about viewing the ProgramData folder, see the following section.
4. Open either the Imperial or Metric folder and select all of the PKT files you want to add to the tool palette. Click Open.
5. In the Import Subassemblies dialog box, ensure that the Tool Palette check box is selected in the lower part of the Import Subassemblies dialog box.
6. Click the tool palette list, scroll to the bottom of the list of tool palettes, and select Create New Palette.
7. In the New Tool Palette dialog box, enter a name for the new palette and click OK.
8. Optionally select the Catalog Library/My Imported Tools check box to add the subassemblies to the My Imported Tools catalog in the Content Browser.
9. Click OK.

To view the ProgramData folder

1. Open the Windows Control Panel and click the Appearance and Personalization link.
2. Under Folder Options or File Explorer Options, click Show Hidden Files and Folders.
3. In the dialog box that is displayed, select Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives. Click OK.
