The data and results in the
database is organised into a flexible hierarchy, which groups the elements of the database into manageable units.
The top level of the database hierarchy is either a
Group or a
Model Group. All other
database items reside within a
Model Group. A
Model Group may reside within a Group.
Model Groups may be used to:
- Represent main divisions within the database at the top level of the organisation. The group may be used to define an area of work. For example, it may contain data associated with a particular client.
- Create additional levels within the database hierarchy by defining subsidiary groups within a top level group. For example, if the group represents a client then this may contain a lower level group for each major project with that client.
- Group
database items by type. For example, if the group represents a project, then this may contain lower level groups for storing
Rainfall Events or
Runs
.
The
Model Group and its contents are managed using the
Explorer Window.
Creating a
model group
To create a
Model group:
- Right-click on the database in the
Explorer window or on a
Group.
- Select New
Model group from the popup menu. The
New Database Item Dialog will be displayed.
- In the New Name
Model Group dialog, type a name for the
Model group or accept the default name.
- Click OK to create the group.
Applying
model group items to the network
Many of the
database items within
model groups can be applied to the network by dragging and dropping the item from the
Explorer Window onto the
GeoPlan Window.
It is also possible to drag and drop a
model group onto the GeoPlan Window. In this case, all applicable items within the
model group will be applied to the network in order (order displayed when items in the tree are sorted by default).
Special cases are as follows:
- Drag and drop of
model groups containing other
model groups of mixed item types is not supported.
- If a
model group containing
Stored Queries is dropped onto the GeoPlan, then the stored queries will be applied in alphabetical order. Other items in the group will not be applied to the network.
