How to create, import, and export custom shortcuts. In general, use custom shortcuts for commands that occur when a dialog is active.
Note: If you install a new Inventor release, you will lose your custom aliases and shortcuts. To retain them, export them before installing; then import them after installing.
What's New:
2024.2
Create Custom Aliases or Shortcuts
- On the ribbon Tools tab Options panel, click Customize.
- In the Customize dialog box, Keyboard tab, in the Categories list, click a command category.
- In the filter
list, select All, Assigned, or Unassigned.
The Unassigned option displays only commands without assigned shortcuts or aliases. (If the Type column is blank, the command is unassigned.)
- Use the Search box to quickly locate the command that will get the shortcut. The search refines as you enter text.
- In the command box, click in the Keys column next to the associated command. Enter the command alias or shortcut, using any of these methods:
- For a command alias, press one or more alphanumeric keys (A-Z, 0-9).
- For a shortcut, press a punctuation key (including ` - = [ ] \ ; ' , . /), or one of the following keys: Home, End, PgUp, PgDn, Up arrow, Down arrow.
- For a shortcut, press Shift and a numeric key (0-9), punctuation key, or one of the following keys: Home, End, PgUp, PgDn, Up arrow, Down arrow.
Note: Any Shift+letter combination results in a command alias, not a shortcut. With Inventor, existing R11 shortcuts are available; however, R11 shortcuts that involve only Shift have changed to Shift+Ctrl combinations.
- For a shortcut, press any combination of Shift, Ctrl, and Alt keys along with an alphanumeric character. (We do not recommend using Alt without another modifier.)
- Do one of the following:
- Continue to assign aliases, or click Close to close the dialog.
Export Customization Settings
- Click Tools tab Options panel Customize.
- Change the command aliases or shortcuts.
- Click Export. The Export Customization Settings dialog displays.
- Navigate to the folder where you want to save the settings. If necessary, create a folder.
- Enter a file name, and then click Save.

Note: Close all Autodesk Inventor files before you import settings.
