Add preparations to weldments

Weld preparations optionally remove metal from the weldment assembly before welds are applied to the weldment. These preparations ensure adequate weld strength. Chamfers are typical preparation features.

To create preparation features in the weldment, activate the Preparations group and add the assembly features . If weld bead and post-weld machining features exist when you activate the Preparations group, the weldment assembly in the graphics window temporarily reverts to the state before Welds and Machining features were added.

Assembly features can be added to the Preparations group at any time, even after adding Machining features .

1. Double-click the Preparations feature group.
2. Create assembly features as needed.
3. Close the Preparations feature group.
   • To return to the weldment assembly, click Return on the Quick Access toolbar.
   • To activate a different weld feature group, double-click the feature group to activate.

The metal removed in the weld preparation process is typically filled back in by the weld bead.
