Add an Empty Part

The Add Part command provides a streamlined version of the Inventor default command, Create Component.

This command creates an empty part within the active assembly. No part activation or feature creation is part of the workflow. No option to select alternative templates or set BOM structure attributes are presented. No assembly constraints are created between the part origin planes that are aligned to the assembly origin planes.

To add an empty part

  1. On the ribbon, click Assemble tab Productivity panel Add Part .

The Create Part dialog box displays.

  2. Enter the file name of the new part.
  3. Optionally, select a folder from the Save in drop-down list.
  4. Click Save to create a new empty part within the assembly and close the dialog box.

Click Cancel to terminate the command and close the dialog box at any time before you click Save.

After you create one or more parts using Add Part, add part features by in-place activation of the new part. Add assembly constraints to position your new part within the assembly.
