Coordinate System Library

Use the Coordinate System Library to view coordinate systems, datums, ellipsoids, geodetic transformations and geodetic transformation paths. You can assign a coordinate system from within the library, and you can edit and delete any user-defined items in the library.

Currently Assigned

If you are assigning a coordinate system, this area displays any currently assigned coordinate system and its description. If you are viewing the library directly, this information is not available.

Show

When you are selecting an element, you can use check boxes to view any combination of projected, geographic, or arbitrary coordinate systems, datums, ellipsoids, geodetic transformation paths, or geodetic transformations. When you are assigning a coordinate system, only coordinate systems are displayed.

If you select only datums, ellipsoids, geodetic transformations, or geodetic transformation paths, you cannot filter by category or unit. (These apply to coordinate systems only).

Status

View all items (No Filter Selected) or only those that are current, outdated, or user-defined.

Code Type
View all coordinate systems or only Autodesk or EPSG systems.
Category
View all categories, or select a particular collection of coordinate systems to narrow your search, such as lat/long, a country or regional category, or one of the UTM categories.
Unit
View items in all units of measurement, or only those that use a particular unit of measurement.
Search
Narrow the results by entering characters contained in a code, description, or category name. For example, enter "can" to see highlighted results that include Canada, Cancun, and Cape Canaveral.

Search Results

When you enter this dialog box using a coordinate system assignment command, the default button is labeled Assign; when you enter it from a selection operation, it is labeled Select. In either case, double-clicking an item is the same as clicking the default button.

To view the properties for an item, select it and click View. You can edit and delete only user-defined items. To edit an item, duplicate it first (if it is an Autodesk-supplied item), and then click Edit. To edit, delete, or view the details for a category, select it and click Manage.

Status

Up to date, Out of date, or User defined.

Code

The default or user-defined name of the item.

Description

A brief description of the item.

Definition Type

One of the following:

  • Project
  • Geographic
  • Arbitrary
  • Datum
  • Ellipsoid
  • Geodetic transformation
  • Geodetic transformation path
Referenced To
The name of the datum or ellipsoid to which the item is referenced. Where more than one datum is referenced (for example, target and source datum), each datum is on a separate line. For arbitrary coordinate systems, ellipsoids, and geodetic paths (which are not referenced), the field is blank.Geodetic coordinate systems are referenced to datums; non-geodetic systems are referenced to ellipsoids.
Categories
Available for coordinate systems only. Multiple categories are separated by a comma.
EPSG Code
Not all elements have EPSG codes. If no code is assigned to an element, the field will be blank.
Unit
Unit of measurement. Datums, ellipsoids, geodetic transformations, and geodetic transformation paths have no associated unit of measurement.
