Reorient a character's position with Relocate

Sometimes you need to reposition your character animation in the scene, whether it is to accommodate other objects in the scene or to make a better fit with a pose. Relocate lets you move your animated character in XYZ space.
  1. Select the animation clip in the Time Editor.
  2. Select Relocate > Create Relocator from the Time Editor Menu bar. (Or click the Relocate button in the Time Editor toolbar. A Relocator is created near the Character's base. A Relocator icon appears on the Track.
Note: If your animation clip is driven by multiple roots, select instead Relocate > Create Relocator > to open the Relocator Options, where you can create a relocator from a list all the root objects in the scene.

The Relocator is invisible unless it is selected, which is the next step.

  3. With the animation clip still selected, select Relocate > Select Relocator from the Time Editor Menu bar.
  4. Use the translation and rotation tools, or modify the X or Y values in the Channel box to move your character to a different spot.
Note: If multiple roots are driving your animation clip, for example, if you had a rig with no explicit hierarchy that has a controller acting for the entire character, you can select the clip click Edit Relocator at any time to set another root as a Relocator in the Relocator Options.

Using Relocators simplifies the Match Pose process, as you can align pose elements for a better match. See Match poses with the Time Editor Relocators.
