Two nodes are created when you create a texture deformer: textureDeformer and textureDeformerHandle. TextureDeformer deforms the mesh while textureDeformerHandle controls the deformation direction. textureDeformerHandle is hidden by default. You can have it display in the Attribute Editor by choosing Direction as Handle, or in the TextureDeformer tool option by selecting Direction as Handle.
