Display subdivisions on a smooth mesh preview

You can use a Smooth Mesh Preview to view and edit what a smoothed version of a mesh will look like. Displaying subdivisions can help pinpoint exactly what a mesh will look like at varying degrees of smoothness.

To display subdivisions on a smooth mesh preview

  1. Select the smoothed mesh that is displayed in Smooth Mesh Preview mode.
  2. In the Smooth Mesh Preview section of the polyShape node Attribute Editor, do the following:

Dotted lines appear on the mesh, representing subdivisions.

  3. Drag the Preview Division Levels attribute or press Page Up or Page Down to change the level of smoothing/subdivision that occurs on the smoothed preview.
Note: Caching smooth meshes can cause poor performance and consume large amounts of memory. You can disable Smooth Mesh Preview using the Cache Smooth Meshes option in the Cached Playback Preferences.
