Compare studies

Create a copy of your study, add two injection locations, run a Fill+Pack analysis, and then compare the results with the study that has one injection location.

Usually, you will modify the model or process settings and then compare the results of a Fill+Pack analysis run on the different versions to optimize your design.

1. Right-click cellphone_study in the Project pane, then select Duplicate.

   The study is duplicated, and the name of the study is highlighted.

2. Change the study name to cellphone_study_2 and press Enter to rename the study.

3. Select the cellphone_study_2 in the Project pane to display the new study.

4. Click Bottom view on the Viewcube to view the base of the cellphone cover.

5. Click (Home tab > Molding Process Setup panel > Injection Locations) and place two injection locations at the base of the cellphone cover.

   

6. Right-click in the Model pane and select Finish Set Injection Locations.

7. Click (Home tab > Molding Process Setup panel > Analysis Wizard), select the Fill+Pack analysis, then click Finish.

8. Click Analyze in the Study Tasks pane to start the analysis.

   When the analysis completes, you can compare the results to the study that has one injection location.

9. If you have the Autodesk Discussion Group tab, or any other models open (located at the bottom of the Model pane), close them before proceeding.

   The browser window will not be included when you tile the two studies.

10. Click (View tab > Windows panel > Tile), and select Tile Horizontally from the drop-down menu.

11. Click (View tab > Locking panel > Lock View), and select Lock All Views from the drop-down menu, to display both of the models in the same way.

    When you rotate one model, the other model will rotate to match.

12. Click (View tab > Locking panel > Lock Animation), and select Lock All Animations from the drop-down menu. The same results will be animated at the same time on both models.

13. Click (View tab > Locking panel > Lock Plot), and select Lock All Plots from the drop-down menu, to display the same results in both windows. You can display different results at the same time by clicking Unlock All Plots from the Lock Plot drop-down menu.

14. Display the Fill time result.

    You will see that the model with two injection locations takes longer to fill.

15. Display the Air traps result.

    There are more air traps in the model with two injection locations.

16. Display the Weld lines result.

    The weld lines are in different positions, but are about the same severity.

17. Display the Time to reach ejection temperature result.

    The model with two injection locations takes longer to cool.

Look at the other results to compare the two models. Use the Dynamic Help panel to help you understand which model shows the better results.

By comparing the results, you can see that the model that has one injection location may result in a better part. The model that has two injection locations takes longer to fill and longer to cool, and seems to have more air traps.
