About Converting AutoCAD Objects to Components or Lines

You can AutoCAD objects to components and lines and add the converted objects to the tool palette for use in the current project.

An AutoCAD block or a group of AutoCAD lines is converted to a specific class definition in the P&ID schema. For example, you can convert a group of AutoCAD lines to a component of the “vessel” class definition.

This group of lines is converted into a single component. It contains the same data and graphical properties as an original component. The vessel is referenced in the Data Manager and in relevant reports (such as an Equipment List report).

In addition, the converted object has the same grip behavior and dynamic behavior as components.

You can convert AutoCAD lines and polylines (including splines or polylines with arcs) into line class definitions that are recognized as P&ID data. Converting an AutoCAD line adds a record for that line in the Data Manager, and includes it in reports. You can specify P&ID line properties such as size, service, and spec.

Note:

A converted AutoCAD line does not have the same dynamic behavior as a P&ID schematic line. For example, a converted line does not automatically break when inline components are inserted in the line. It does not have flow direction properties.
