About Autodesk Docs

AutoCAD Plant 3D collaboration project files are hosted in Autodesk Docs.

When projects are shared in AutoCAD Plant 3D through the Collaboration for Plant 3D service, the project files are uploaded to the Project Files parent folder in Autodesk Docs.
Note: It is important that you use the AutoCAD Plant 3D desktop application to upload and organize your project-related documents and models. File management operations, version control, or other collaboration tasks should not be performed in Autodesk Docs. These tasks should be done in the AutoCAD Plant 3D desktop application.
To take advantage of Plant 3D collaboration, you need the following:

Folder Permissions

AutoCAD Plant 3D primarily checks the folder permissions within Autodesk Docs for access management.

Note: Although, the VIEW access allows viewing of files within Autodesk Docs in a web browser, AutoCAD Plant 3D requires VIEW+DOWNLOAD as the minimum access. This is because AutoCAD Plant 3D needs to download files to the local machine to view them.

Recommended Permission Roles

Viewer (View+Download)

Anyone accessing the Plant 3D project should have the view and download permissions to the project root folder at the minimum for AutoCAD Plant 3D to function.

Drafter/Editor (View+Download+Upload+Edit)

Drafters should have the view, download, upload, and edit permissions. The permissions can be managed for each folder. For example, you can allow only designers to edit models, and only drafters to edit P&IDs.

Permissions are cascaded automatically to the folders under them, but giving a subfolder increased permissions (for example, P&IDs) does not give increased permissions to the project folder above it.

CAD Admin (Full Control)

For CAD administrators, it is recommended to grant them Full Control permissions to the project root folder to enable editing of Project Settings. Providing the view, download, upload, and edit permissions in the root folder have similar capabilities but the Full Control is useful for CAD admins as it offers more capabilities.

Permissions Matrix Example
CAD Administrator Piping Designer/3D Modeler P&ID Drafter Pipe Spec Editor
Project Root Full Control View+Download View+Download View+Download
Isometric Full Control View+Download+Upload+Edit View+Download View+Download
Orthos Full Control View+Download+Upload+Edit View+Download View+Download
PID_DWG Full Control View+Download View+Download+Upload+Edit View+Download

Spec_Sheets Full Control View+Download View+Download View+Download+Upload+Edit

Autodesk Docs Roles

Autodesk Docs also has Roles in the Account Admin section where you can specify a role with default permissions (for example, as a drafter), and add team members to that role. You can still override those permissions for each Plant project folder as needed.

For more information, see the Autodesk Docs topic in the Autodesk Design Collaboration Help.
