About 3D Sketch

Launch a session of FormIt from Revit and import geometry from the Revit model into FormIt.

3D Sketch

Use 3D sketch to launch a session of FormIt while working in Revit. A session of FormIt is launched. Geometry from the current Revit model can be selected for import into the FormIt session. Use the Revit model geometry as context for the conceptual design work in FormIt.

Note: If the 3D Sketch button does not appear in the user interface, please make sure that the "FormIt Converter for Revit" component is checked in the Custom Installation in the Customization section.

Import the FormIt model back into Revit and continue with design development. For additional information on importing FormIt models, see: FormIt Converter and Import a FormIt File.

Use the conceptual model from FormIt to continue developing the design. Create walls, floors, curtain systems, and roof elements based on the conceptual model geometry. For more information on using conceptual masses to create building elements see: Create Building Elements from Mass Instances.

Import Limitations

Not all geometry in the Revit model is eligible for import into FormIt. The restricted geometry will be disregarded and not imported into the FormIt model. Geometry restricted is as follows:
  • Mesh geometry - For example, a 3D from created from a spline element is mesh geometry.
