Twinmotion for Revit

Learn about visualization with Twinmotion for Revit, offered as part of your Revit subscription.

What is Twinmotion?

Twinmotion is a powerful real-time visualization tool that allows you to generate high-quality images, panoramas, standard or 360° VR videos, and interactive presentations from your model.

Why should you use Twinmotion for Revit?

Use Twinmotion for Revit to quickly create real-time 3D-visualizations of your model. You can send your Revit model to Twinmotion to continue the design and visualization process there. As the Revit model progresses, you can synchronize the changes you made in Revit back into Twinmotion to update the design and visualize the result.

Where do you find it?

First, make sure you have the latest Revit update installed. You can download Autodesk Revit 2024 updates from your Autodesk Accounts, Products, and Services page or download and install automatically from the Autodesk Desktop Application.

Locate Twinmotion for Revit from your list of products on your Autodesk Accounts, Products, and Services page. You'll find a link to access and download the installer from the Epic Games site.

How do you connect your Revit model to Twinmotion?

When connecting for the first time, you need to create a direct link connection to the current Revit project:
  1. Open a 3D view of the Revit model.
  2. Click View Twinmotion Open in Twinmotion. This will launch Twinmotion and display a dialog with two options: New project and Existing project.
  3. Select New project.
  4. This will create a new Twinmotion project file and establish a direct link connection with the current Revit model. An initial synchronization is performed to send the geometry visible in the active Revit 3D view to Twinmotion. You can continue the design and visualization process in Twinmotion.
To open an existing Twinmotion project file without automatically establishing a new direct link connection:
  1. Open a 3D view of the Revit model.
  2. Click View Twinmotion Open in Twinmotion. This will launch Twinmotion and display a dialog with two options: New project and Existing project.
  3. Select Existing project.
  4. Browse to the Twinmotion project and open it. You can then continue the design and visualization process in Twinmotion.

Synchronizing changes made in the Revit model

As the design progresses in Revit, you can send the latest changes to the Twinmotion project file by using View Twinmotion Synchronize.

This will update the Twinmotion project file direct link with all recent changes from the Revit model, based on the active Revit 3D view.

To enable automatic synchronization of changes, choose the desired 3D view and click View Twinmotion Auto Sync.

Once you have enabled Auto Sync while in a 3D view, all visible geometry in this view will automatically be kept in sync, without needing to keep that view open.

Auto Sync is recommended for small to medium complexity Revit models. For larger or very complex models, it is recommended to use the manual Synchronize command as needed to send the latest changes to Twinmotion.
