Change the Order of Connected Elements

Understand the priority of steel elements in a connection and learn how to change their order.

In a steel connection, there is one element that is considered primary into which secondary elements connect.

Primary elements.

Secondary elements.

When you select a connection, the generic connection symbol displays the primary element as a filled circle. The secondary elements display as numbered circles. The numbers specify further order in the connection. This information is required to correctly generate some detailed connections.

Change the primary element in a connection

1. Select the connection to view the connection order.
2. Drag and drop the filled circle onto the desired primary element. The elements will swap order.

Change secondary element order in a connection

1. Select the connection to view the connection order.
2. Drag and drop the numbered circle of an element on top of another circled element to swap their order.
