The error "Attempted to access <file name> past its end" occurs when opening a Revit file.
Warning: The error "Attempted to access <file name> past its end" occurs when opening a Revit file.
Causes This error usually means that the file was not transferred or saved properly or completely; it is not a complete Revit file.
Solution: Copy or transfer the file again from the location it was transferred from and verify wherever it was transferred from and verify that the file sizes are the same.
If the transferred file is smaller than the original file, perform the following steps:
- Close all Revit sessions.
- Open the Task Manager and select the Details tab.
- Check if the following processes are still running in the background. If any of them are still running select it and end task:
- Revit.exe
- RevitAccelerator.exe
- RevitWorker.exe
- Open File Explore and type
%TEMP%.
- Select all files and folders and delete them (some files and folders will remain because they are used by other programs running in the background).
- In File Explorer navigate to C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Autodesk\Revit and rename the Autodesk Revit folder to e.g. Autodesk Revit ####_backup.
- In the same location C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Autodesk\Revit, rename the PacCache folder to PacCache_backup.
- After performing the above operations, restart Revit and reopen the model or try add a link to it.
