Cannot Label Rooms in a Demolition Plan

You created a demolition plan but are not able to tag existing rooms.

Issue: Room elements only exist in the phase in which they were created; they do not persist across the phases of a project. A demolition plan typically shows existing elements from the previous phase and graphically alters the elements to be demolished. The existing rooms are from a previous phase, but they do not persist across phases, so they are not present in the demolition view and cannot be tagged.

Solution: Use 2 views overlaid to add rooms and tags to the demolition plan.

  1. Create an existing floor plan. Place rooms and tag rooms in the existing floor plan.
  2. Create a demolition floor plan. Use the Demolish tool and mark elements for demolition as required.
  3. Drag and drop the demolition plan from the Project Browser to place the view on a sheet.
  4. Create a duplicate of the existing floor plan using Duplicate with Detailing. Rename the view. (Example: Existing - Rooms Only)
  5. Select all elements in the duplicated view. Then use the filter to limit the selection to Rooms and Room Tags.
  6. Isolate the Rooms and Room Tags with the Temporary Hide/Isolate tool on the View Control Bar.
  7. Apply Hide/Isolate to the view from the Temporary Hide/Isolate tool on the View Control Bar.
  8. Drag and drop the Existing - Rooms Only view to the sheet where the demolition plan is placed.
  9. Change the view port type to omit a view title. You may need to duplicate an existing view port type and create a new one without the view title.
  10. Reposition the Existing - Rooms Only view to line up with the demolition plan. Use guides and snaps to aid in placement.
