The Apply Area Rules value setting is remembered and the default value is customizable.
In the [misc] section of the Revit.ini file, if ApplyAreaRules is enabled, Revit will automatically change the wall boundary position when the area type is changed.
See Apply Area Rules.
Example: An office area is measured at the wall centerline, while exterior area is measured to the exterior wall face. By enabling ApplyAreaRules, the area boundary position updates in accordance with area type changes.
For more information, see Misc. Settings in Revit.ini.
