Cut Geometry

Use the Cut Geometry tool to create clean joins between two or more host elements that share a common face, such as walls and floors.

You can also use the tool to cut hosts and project families.

As shown in the animation, the tool cuts overlapping floor and wall geometry from the toposolid.

When you cut geometry in the Family Editor, you create a joint between different shapes. In a project, the following elements can be used to cut each other:

To Cut geometry

  1. Click Modify tabGeometry panelCut drop-down (Cut Geometry).
  2. If you want to cut the first selected geometry instance to several other instances, select Multiple Cut on the Options Bar.

If you do not select this option, you must make a first and second selection each time.

  3. Select the first geometry to cut (for example, a floor face).
  4. Select the second geometry to cut the first (for example, an intersecting wall).
  5. If you selected Multiple Cut, continue selecting other geometry to cut the first.
  6. To exit the tool, click Modify or press Esc.
