Use this to edit the OSB and VPB standard binary file formats of VRED and set file compression used and how textures are treated.
In the Menu Bar, click Edit > Preferences, then on the left side of the dialog box, select Import/Export > File Type > OSB/VPB. The preferences are grouped in the Import and Export tabs found along the top. After making any changes, press Apply to apply them and Save to save the changes. To exit and ignore any changes made, click the X.
Set the default importing behavior for OSB/VPB files.
Loader
Checksum Test - Ensures the file was successfully read after loading into VRED. The Checksum Test causes longer file loading times.
Calculate Missing Variant Set Previews - Generates missing preview images for VariantSets.
Execute Embedded Script - Executes scripts that have been saved within the VPB when the file is loaded.
File Specific Options
Set the default exporting behavior for OSB/VPB files.
Writer
File Compression - Defines compression quality with the following options, since VRED files can be saved with file compression to reduce size.
Validate Written File - Validates all written data; may increase write time.
Use Inline Textures - Includes all scene textures in the vpb/osb file. A texture compression (we recommend Lossless) can be set to help reduce file size.
Deactivate to save textures non-inlined for the whole project file. Non-inlined textures have their texture data stored outside the vpb file, with only the file path pointing to a file on disk and reduces memory usage.
If a texture file is not found during Save, that texture is saved inlined and a message appears during saving.
Show Thumbnail Preview in Explorer - Displays a thumbnail preview of the file in Explorer.
Incremental Save
Enable Incremental Save - Saves consecutively numbered file versions (increments) along with the file that is saved, as well as smart references. The number of versions is defined in Number of Increments option. This is NOT an autosave.
Number of Increments - Sets the maximum number of backups (increments) saved by the incremental save function. A value of X means that the X newest increments are deleted when the limit is reached. "Unlimited" (0) means that all files are kept.
File Specific Options
Contains the following file specific export options:
Animation Options
Geometry Options
Contains the following geometry export options:
Meshes - Includes all existing meshes in the exported scene.
Surfaces - Determines what happens to surfaces and whether they are included or not in the exported scene.
Remove B-Sides - Determines whether B-Sides are removed and not included in the exported scene. A B-Side definition is comparable with the No Show feature in CAD software. When enabled, this removes all shapes and components set as a B-Side.
Export Options
Contains the following export options:
Annotations - Includes all existing annotations with their descriptions and settings in the exported scene.
Metadata - Includes all existing metadata in the exported scene.
Transform Variants - Includes all existing transform variants and their values in the exported scene.
Scripts - Includes all existing scripts in the exported scene.
Touch Sensors - Includes all existing touch sensors in the exported scene.
Geometry Switches - Includes all existing geometry switches in the exported scene. If disabled, this could affect variants and variant sets.
Material Switches - Includes all existing material switches in the exported scene. If disabled, this could affect variants and variant sets.
Variant Sets - Includes all existing variant sets with their different geometry and material switches in the exported scene.
Variants - Includes all existing variant with their different geometry and material switches in the exported scene.
Advanced Options
Contains the following advanced export options:
Lightmaps - Includes all calculated lightmaps in the exported scene. Depending on the resolution, lightmaps can be very large, in terms of the amount of data.
Keep Unused Materials - Includes all existing unused materials. Keep in mind, large numbers of unused materials increase the amount of data used.
Keep Empty Material Group Nodes - Includes all existing material group nodes containing no child nodes in the exported scene.
Keep Empty Geometry Nodes - Includes all existing geometry nodes containing no child nodes in the exported scene. Imported data might contain geometry without polygons, such as surfaces without valid tessellation. These nodes could decrease runtime stability. This option keeps such geometry nodes.
Keep Empty Group Nodes - Includes all existing group nodes containing no child nodes in the exported scene.
Keep Empty Shell Nodes - Includes all existing shell nodes containing no child nodes in the exported scene.
