Learn how to set what is selectable/deselectable in the viewport and the hotkey conmbinations and actions used for quick selection/deselection.
For a quick way to select only objects, references, groups, or other entities, use the Edit Selection menu. The option selected sets the selection target. To change this, make another selection.

Access the Edit Selection menu using either Edit > Selection or Shift +
-click in the viewport, then select the option you want:
Component - Makes individual surface patches inside a shell, geometries (meshes, lines, points), and light sources selectable.
Object - Makes shells, surfaces that are not in a shell, geometries (meshes, lines, points), and light sources selectable.
Group - Makes the next parent of the selection target selectable.
Sceneplate - Makes frontplates and backplates selectable.
By Material - Makes all objects with the same material selectable.
Adjacency - Makes adjacent components selectable.
Reference - Makes all references selectable.
Adjacent Settings - Opens the Adjacent Settings dialog.
These options are only available through Shift +
-clicking in the viewport:
Select Parent - Selects a parent node of the currently selected object from this sub menu.
Select Object Behind - Selects the selection target behind the currently selected object from this sub menu.
Selectable - Toggles the Selectable state of the currently selected entity or its parent.
In the Menu Bar, click Edit > Selection.
Choose a selection behavior:
Once your selection target is set, use the following hotkey shortcut combinations:
