During 3D Free Orbit, the cursor changes as it is moved around the arcball to indicate the direction of orbit.
When you use 3D free orbit (3DFORBIT), view rotation is determined by the placement and appearance of the cursor:
Moving the cursor inside the arcball changes it to a free orbit icon. Dragging inside the arcball causes the view to orbit freely in a horizontal, vertical, and diagonal direction.
Moving the cursor outside the arcball changes it to a Roll icon. Dragging outside the arcball moves the view around an axis that extends through the center of the arcball, perpendicular to the screen. This is called a roll.
Moving the cursor over the small circles on the left or right side of the arcball changes it to a Vertical Rotation icon. Dragging left or right from either of these points rotates the view around the vertical axis through the middle of the arcball.
Moving the cursor over the small circles on the top or bottom of the arcball changes it to a Horizontal Rotation icon. Dragging up or down from either of these points rotates the view around the horizontal axis through the middle of the arcball.
