To Geolocate a Point Cloud on a Map

When attaching a point cloud to a drawing with a map, you can locate the point cloud to coordinates in the map. As the host drawing has geographic information in it, other data with geographic information can be automatically and accurately located when attached to the host drawing.
Note: Define a coordinate system for the drawing, then attach the point cloud.
  1. Click Insert tab > Location panel > Set Location drop-down > From Map. Find
  2. In the Geographic Location dialog box, in the Address box, type the name of a landmark or road near the reference location and click .
  3. In the results pane, on the result nearest to the reference location, click Drop Marker Here.
  4. Drag the geographic marker to the desired location and then press Next.
  5. In the GIS Coordinate System list, select a coordinate system.
  6. At the command prompt, specify a position and specify the angle from the X axis to the north direction.
  7. Click Insert tab > Reference panel > Attach. Find
  8. In the Select Reference File dialog box, Files of Type drop-down list, select the file type Autodesk Point Cloud (*.rcp, *.rcs).
  9. Select a scan (RCS) or reality capture project file (RCP) to attach, and click Open.
  10. In the Attach Point Cloud dialog box, select Use geographic location.
  11. Note: This option is disabled if the point cloud contains no coordinate data or uses a different coordinate system from the one defined for the map.
  12. Click OK to attach the point cloud, geolocated on the corresponding coordinates of the map.
