Standard Revision Updates Surface Texture Symbols

The surface texture symbol now supports the latest revisions of ISO (ISO 21920-1:2021(E)) and ANSI/ASME (ASME Y14.36 - 2018) standards.

By supporting the new ISO 21920-1:2021(E) and ANSI/ASME Y14.36 - 2018 standards, you can annotate documents created in AutoCAD Mechanical using the latest revision of surface texture symbols to communicate precise information about surface finishes.

Note: AutoCAD Mechanical toolset continues to support all legacy revisions and allows documents created in previous releases to be opened, edited, and saved without updating the surface texture standard. Saving the new revision of the surface texture symbols to an older file format converts the surface texture symbol to a block.

Options Dialog Box

In AutoCAD Mechanical 2025 toolset, the default standard for a new drawing is set to the latest ISO or ANSI/ASME standard revision. However, when you open a legacy drawing, the default standard changes to the corresponding old standard revision.

You can change the standard revision in the Options dialog box.

Surface Texture Settings Dialog Box

The Surface Texture Settings dialog box displays the latest ISO and ANSI/ASME revisions for surface texture symbols. The corresponding symbol type and preset list are automatically updated to reflect the most recent revision.

Surface Texture Dialog Box

The Surface Texture ISO dialog box includes the latest surface texture revision, providing you with the most up-to-date notation and requirements. This dialog box also supports multi-row functionality which allows you to organize and present surface texture specifications across multiple rows.
The Surface Texture ANSI/ASME dialog box provides more capabilities. In addition to multi-row support, this dialog box provides you options to define multiple reference lines within the symbol.

Properties Palette

You can view and modify all surface texture symbol properties using the Properties palette.
