Instead of overriding any of the drafting standards supplied with AutoCAD Mechanical toolset, you can create a custom standard, based on a supplied standard. Additionally, by creating a custom standard you can work around the validation mechanism that prevents you from creating some settings that violate the standard. For example, if you are using the ANSI standard, your choices for text height are limited to 0.1, 0.12 and 0.24. No such restrictions are imposed on custom standards. To create a custom drafting standard:

  1. At the Command prompt, enter AMOPTIONS.
  2. In the Options dialog box, select the AM:Standards tab.
  3. In the Standard box, type a name for your own standard, and press Enter. The selection dialog box appears.
  4. From the drop-down list box, select a standard to use as a base standard.
  5. Click OK until all dialog boxes close.
Note: Once the custom drafting standard is created, you configure the elements of the standard and then save as a .dwt file for future use.
