About Configuring the Symbol Library for Reuse (AutoCAD Mechanical Toolset)

Several symbols support a symbol library. This feature enables you to save frequently used symbols in the library and insert them into a drawing directly from the ribbon.

Typically, the symbol library is built as you annotate drawings. After that, use the AMSETUPDWG command to update the company template. This enables others to reuse these symbols on drawings that use that template.

To update the company template, import the library from a drawing that already has a fully configured symbol library. When you import, use the Replace option and replace the symbol library in the template with the library from the drawing. Although this operation deletes the existing library in the template, it eliminates the need to clean up the symbol library after importing.

Often, it is not desirable to clean up the symbol library after importing it into a template. We recommend that you perform all clean-up operations in the source drawing before you import the symbol library into the company template. To access the symbol library and clean it up, create a symbol. Typically, drawing templates must not have any geometry or annotations related to parts in the drawing area.

A typical clean-up operation involves ensuring that the symbol library:

The AMSETUPDWG command can only import settings from a DWT file. Before importing the symbol libraries from a DWG file, save the file as a DWT file, making it selectable for import within AMSETUPDWG.
