To Analyze the Strength at a Point on a Shaft (AutoCAD Mechanical Toolset)

How to check the strength, fatigue, and safety factors at a point on a shaft for which a shaft calculation is already defined.

  1. Double-click a support, load or shaft contour (created previously by the AMSHAFTCLAC command) of the shaft to analyze. The Shaft Calculation dialog box displays.
  2. In the Calculation section, click strength.
  3. In the drawing area, click the position you want to calculate the strength of.
  4. If the DIN Notches or ANSI Notches dialog box displays, select the profile that most closely reflects the cross section of the point you selected and click OK.
  5. In the Notch tab, in the Surface of the Notch section, specify the finish and roughness of the shaft surface.
  6. If the dimensions shown in the Geometry of Notch section does not reflect the values of the shaft you selected, specify them.
Note: The other tabs contain calculated values extracted from the shaft calculation, constants and safety factors that are typical for strength calculations. If required, you can override them or leave them at their default values.
  7. Click Evaluate.
  8. In the drawing area, specify a location for the result block and press ENTER.
