Places a Component, Component View, Folder or Annotation View that is already defined in the drawing, in the drawing area. It also inserts additional views into an Annotation View that has already been placed in the drawing area.
List of Prompts
The following prompts are displayed.
Component
Inserts a component that is already defined in the drawing.
- Component name
- Specifies the name of the component to place in model space.
- Component view name - Specifies the name of the component view to place in model space. Press Enter to accept the default view or press ? to list the component views defined for that component.
- Insertion point - Specifies the location of the component view in model space.
- Change base point - Temporarily overrides the base point of the component view you are inserting.
- Rotate 90 - Rotates the component view 90 degrees counter clockwise.
- Select next view - Selects the next view in the list instead of the currently selected view. The preview changes to reflect the next view.
- ?
- Lists components defined in the drawing to enable you to specify the name correctly.
- Components to list - Performs a wild-card pattern match on component names.
Note: For example, if you only want to display components that start with the letters GEAR, enter GEAR*.For more information on wild cards, search for “Wildcard Characters” in AutoCAD online help.
Component View
Inserts a view to an instance of a component that is already placed in model space.
- Component instance
- Selects an existing instance of a component to add the component view to.
Folder
Inserts a folder that is already defined in the drawing.
- Folder name
- Specifies the name of the folder to place in model space.
- Select parent - Specifies where in the mechanical structure you want to add the folder to. You can add it as a child of the active folder/component view or add it directly below the root and restructure it later.
Annotation View
Inserts an instance of an annotation view that has already been defined in the drawing.
- Annotation View Name
- Specifies the name of the annotation view to insert.
- Placement
- Specifies if the annotation view is created in model space or a layout.
- Scale
- Suggests a scale based on the paper size you provide.

Annotation Subview
Inserts views to an instance of a annotation view that is already placed in the drawing area. the command cycles until you place all subviews in the drawing area or until you explicitly select the Done option in the command line.
- Annotation view instance
- Specifies the annotation view to add a sub view to. In the drawing area, click an object that belongs to the annotation view you want to add a view to.
- Labels
- Specifies if labels are inserted with the views you are adding to the Annotation View instance.
