Use the Material Properties dialog box to change properties of the selected material or to choose a new material altogether.
Table Displays the Material dialog box, which allows you to specify a material for the shaft you are performing calculations for. When you select a material, the mechanical properties of the material default to values specified for that material by the corresponding standards organization. If required, you can override any of these values. |
Description Specifies the material grade, which classifies the material by composition and mechanical properties. |
Group Specifies the material group of the specified material. Grouping is used only by some standards, which categorize materials by application or composition. |
Tensile Strength Specifies the mechanical property tensile strength, corresponding to the adjacent reference diameter. |
Yield Point Specifies the minimum yield strength, corresponding to the adjacent reference diameter. |
Alternating Strength for Tension Specifies the maximum alternating tensile stress the material can withstand. |
Alternating Strength for Bending Specifies the maximum alternating flexure the material can withstand. |
Alternating Strength for Tension Specifies the maximum alternating twisting stress the material can withstand. |
E-modulus Specifies the Young's modulus of the material. |
Poisson Specifies the Poisson constant of the material. |
