FAQ: Why does dimension snapping take time in a layout?

When placing dimensions in a layout, snapping to the intersection created by overlapping model space and paper space entities may take time and hinder the operation.

For example, a layout displays a vertical line from model space in a viewport. In the layout, you draw a horizontal line that intersects with this. Sometimes, when object snap attempts to snap to this intersection, performance may be compromised.

You can turn off snapping to model space and paper space entity intersections, by setting the AMDIMLAYOUTOSNAP system variable to 0. This system variable impacts the following commands:
