Colour Coding Segments

Each type of Timeline segment has a distinctive colour to help identify them. The colours for these types of segments can be modified from the Timeline Preferences

Additionally, you can override the default colour coding set in the Preferences, for any particular segment in the Timeline, by choosing an alternate colour from the Colours submenu of the context menu of the segment in question. To remove the new colour, select “No Colour” from the context menu and the segment defaults back to the colour defined in the Preferences.

The same colour presets available in the Media Panel are available in the Timeline and you can also select a custom colour, using the Custom option.

As of 2025.1 Update, the Timeline segments have their own colour coding presets that can be defined from the Colour Coding Preferences.

Note: The label associated with a colour is persisted in the Timeline segment's metadata. When a clip is loaded on a workstation using a different colour coding legend, the colour of the Timeline segment is adjusted to reflect the colour - label association of the new workstation.

Managing Colour Coding on Connected Segments

The Link Colours option available in the Timeline Preferences can be used to select whether the colour coding of a timeline segment is synced or not between connected segments.

Search Segments by Colours

The Colour criteria is available as a Timeline Search criteria. The Colour button can be used to include or exclude colour as a search criteria. Clicking the Colour dropdown button lists all the currently used colours, based on the selected items (Segments, Containers, Gaps, Markers & Segment Markers). The "No Colour" option is always available.

Hiding Timeline Segments

Timeline segments can be hidden using the Hide Segment option from the context menu of the Timeline segment in question. Hidden segments are slightly darker than visible segments.

Once a segment is hidden in the Timeline, it is ignored in the following situations:

It does not appear in the Player.
Its Timeline FX do not appear in the Timeline FX bar and editing them is not possible.
It is ignored in Publish and Export.
It is treated as a gap when loaded in Lustre, if Source Grading is disabled. If Source Grading is enabled, the source is available in Lustre and is hidden when sent back to Flame.

Hidden segments remain searchable, via the Timeline Search Tool.

To restore a segment’s visibility status, select Show Segment from its context menu.

The "Show / Hide Segment" keyboard shortcut is assigned to the Ctrl+H keystroke by default in all profiles.
