Design V-Belts

Design a belt transmission with 2 pulleys

  1. On the ribbon, click Design tab Power Transmission panel V-Belts .
  2. On the generator, Design tab:
    • Select the base midplane for the belt trajectory.
    • Click the down arrow next to the Belt edit field to select a belt.
    • Add 2 pulleys. The first pulley is always a driver.
    • Specify the position of each pulley by dragging a grip at the center of the pulley.
    • Specify the pulley diameter by dragging a grip or using the Pulley Properties dialog box.
  3. Click OK to generate the belt transmission.
Note: On the Calculation tab, you can perform a calculations and a strength check. The calculation is performed when you click Calculate.

Design a belt transmission with 3 pulleys

  1. On the ribbon, click Design tab Power Transmission panel V-Belts .
  2. On the generator, Design tab:
    • Select the base midplane for the belt trajectory.
    • Click the down arrow next to the Belt edit field to select a belt.
    • Add 3 pulleys. The first pulley is always a driver.
    • Specify a position for each pulley by dragging a grip at the center of the pulley.
    • Specify the pulley diameter by dragging a grip or using Pulley Properties dialog box.
    • Open the Pulley Properties dialog box to determine power ratio. If power ratio of pulley is 0.0 it is considered an idler.
  3. Click OK to generate belt transmission.
Note: On the Calculation tab, you can perform calculations and a strength check. Calculation is performed when you click Calculate.

Design a belt transmission with an idler

    • Select which pulley can have a sliding position.
    • Specify a position for each pulley by dragging a grip at the center of the pulley.
    • Specify the pulley diameter by dragging a grip or using Pulley Properties dialog box.
    • Open the Pulley Properties dialog box to determine power ratio. If power ratio of pulley is 0.0, it is an idler.
  3. Switch to the Calculation tab.
  4. Select the type of strength calculation.
  5. Enter the calculation values. You can change the values and units directly in the edit fields.
  6. Click Calculate to perform the calculation.
  7. The inputs that fail the calculation are displayed in red (their value doesn't correspond with other inserted values or calculation criteria). Reports of the calculation are displayed in the Summary of Messages area which is displayed after clicking the chevron in the right lower part of the Calculation tab.
  8. Click OK to generate belt transmission.

Edit V-belts

  1. Open the Autodesk Inventor assembly with the Design Accelerator V-belt transmission already inserted.
  2. Right-click the V-belt transmission subassembly and select Edit Using Design Accelerator.
  3. Edit the V-belt drive. You can change the number or type of pulleys, recalculate values, and so on. If you changed calculation values, click Calculate to see if strength check is acceptable. The calculation results are displayed in the Results area. Unsatisfactory calculation values are displayed in red. Reports of the calculation are displayed in the Summary of Messages area.
  4. Click OK.
