Design keys

Insert key connection

  1. On the ribbon, click Design tab Power Transmission panel Key .
  2. On the Design tab:
    • Click the down arrow next to the edit field in the Key box to select the key from the Content Center. Select the appropriate standard and key.
      Note: You need to be connected to the Content Center to be able to select key.
    • Enter the length of key.
    • Enter the number of keys that you want to insert.
    • If you selected 2 or more keys, select the angle.
    • Select the type of groove in the Shaft Groove box. You cannot change the groove type after the edit.
    • If you selected the Create New option, define the type of shaft groove using the icons. If you selected the Select Existing option, select the existing groove in the assembly.
    • Define the faces on the shaft where to place the groove. According to the shaft diameter, the key parameters are set.
    • Define the placement of the hub groove.
    • In the Select Objects to Generate area, select the objects to insert. By default, all options are enabled. Disable the options by clicking the icons.
  3. Click OK.

Insert individual connection component - shaft groove

  1. On the ribbon, click Design tab Power Transmission panel Key .
  2. On the Design tab:
    • Click the arrow next to the edit field in the Key box to select the key from the Content Center. Select the standard and key.
      Note: You need to be connected to the Content Center to be able to select key.
    • Enter the length of key.
    • Enter the number of keys that you want to insert.
    • If you selected 2 or more keys, select the angle.
    • Select the type of groove. You cannot change the groove type after the edit.
    • If you selected the Create New option, define the type of shaft groove using the icons. If you selected the Select Existing option, select the existing groove in the assembly.
    • Define the faces on the shaft where to place the groove. According to the shaft diameter, the key parameters are set.
    • Define the placement of hub groove.
    • Click the first (Inserts Key) and third (Inserts Hub Groove) icons in the Select Objects to Generate area to disable key and hub groove insertion.
  3. Click OK.

Insert key connection when shaft groove exists

  1. On the ribbon, click Design tab Power Transmission panel Key .
  2. On the Design tab:
    • Click the down arrow next to the edit field in the Key box to select the key from the Content Center. Select the standard and key.
      Note: You need to be connected to the Content Center to be able to select key.
    • Select the Select Existing option in the Shaft Groove box. You cannot change them after the edit.
    • According to the shaft groove parameters the key parameters are set.
    • Enter the angle, if required.
    • Define the faces on the shaft where to place the key.
    • Enter the key length, if required.
    • Define the placement of hub groove.
    • In the Select Objects to Generate area, select the objects to insert. By default, all options are enabled. Disable the options by clicking the icons. The Shaft Groove option is disabled by default.
  3. Click OK.
Note: Valid shaft grooves that you can select are grooves created by the Key Connection generator using Autodesk Inventor 11 and earlier versions.

Additional insertion of connection components

  1. Open the assembly with the already inserted Design Accelerator key connection.
  2. Select the key connection, right-click to display the context menu and select Edit Using Design Accelerator.
  3. In the Select Objects to Generate area, click the icon of the inserted object (key, groove, hub).
  4. If you select key, you can insert it directly to the assembly. If you select groove or hub, you must specify the geometry.

Edit key connection

  1. Open the assembly with the already inserted Design Accelerator key connection.
  2. Select the key connection, right-click to display the context menu and click the Edit Using Design Accelerator command.
  3. You can add components to the connection or change dimensions. You cannot delete a component from a connection. Inserted components cannot be deleted from the Key Generator. You can only delete them in the Autodesk Inventor assembly.

Calculate key

  1. On the ribbon, click Design tab Power Transmission panel Key .
  2. In the Design tab, click the down arrow next to the edit field in the Key box to select the key from the Content Center. Select the standard and key.
    Note: You need to be connected to the Content Center to be able to select key.
  3. Switch to the Calculation tab.
  4. Select the type of strength calculation.
  5. Enter the calculation values. You can change the values and units directly in the edit fields.
  6. Click Calculate to perform the calculation.
  7. Calculation results are displayed in the Results area. The inputs that fail the calculation are displayed in red (their value doesn't correspond with other inserted values or calculation criteria). Reports of the calculation are displayed in the Summary of Messages area which is displayed after clicking the chevron in the right lower part of the Calculation tab.
  8. Click OK.
