Process Settings Wizard dialog-Profile Settings

This page of the Process Settings Wizard, which can be accessed by clicking Process Settings Wizard (Home tab > Molding Process Setup panel > Process Settings), is used to specify the filling profile related process settings for the selected thermoset molding analysis sequence.

Note: Some of the following items may not be available on the current dialog. This depends on the mesh type, molding process and analysis sequence selected.
Dialog widgetExplanation
Melt initial conversionTo specify the level of conversion, enter a value between -1 and 1 where:
  • -1 = beginning of induction period (where relevant).
  • 0 = the beginning of conversion.
  • 1 = end of conversion.
Keep inlet conversion at melt initial conversion (for 3D mesh)When you check this option, the conversion value at the inlet will remain at melt initial conversion value. If you do not check this option, the conversion value at the inlet will evolve according to the inlet temperature and initial conversion value.
Curing timeThe time taken for the thermoset material to become sufficiently cross-linked from heating to form a solid and freeze.
%Air mass

Enter a value for air mass when there is a significant amount of air in the resin. For example, the pellet used in the Microchip Encapsulation can have enough air to affect the flow. The %Air mass value accounts for the compressibility of the air in the resin, using the ideal gas law. Because it is in %mass, even a small value can represent a significant volume of air in the resin.

In most cases, this value can be set to zero (0).

Tip: Specifying a non-zero value for %Air mass can make the flow solution less stable.

%Air mass is supported for some 3D thermoset processes, such as reactive molding, microchip encapsulation, reactive injection-compression, and reactive compression molding.

Ambient temperatureThe ambient temperature should be set to the average ambient temperature at the site where the injection molding occurs. The default value for ambient temperature is 25°C (77°F).
Preconditioning analysisSpecify whether a preconditioning analysis should be performed. Preconditioning data are used to calculate the melt temperature.
