Clipping Panel

Click Clipping to create a plane that cuts through the model and hides the material from one side, to display a cross section.

Three tools are available to manually adjust the clipping plane:

• Click-drag the plane to move it forward or back through the part.
• Click-drag the ball in the middle of the normal (line perpendicular to the plane) to change its position on the plane.
• Click-drag a handle at the end of the normal to swing and tilt the plane.

The Edit Clipping Plane dialog provides several methods to adjust the plane location and orientation:

• Snap to a pair of axes through the center of the part, XY, YZ, or ZX
• Change the clip direction to see the opposite side of the part by clicking Invert normal.
• In the Transform area, use the slider for Distance along normal to move the plane through the part; use the slider for Angle about axis to tilt the plane.
• In the Positioning area, click Point on plane or Normal vector and adjust the numeric X, Y, and Z settings for the object.

When the clipping plane is in the correct location, click OK to close the dialog, while still displaying the cross section and editing tools. If you want to edit the plane again, click Edit in the Clipping panel. If you want to remove the clipping plane, click the Clipping button again.

The last orientation of the clipping plane is saved with the project. When you click Clipping again, the saved clipping plane redisplays, even after the project has been closed and later re-opened.
