To import and export the Machine tab settings

Copy settings to other documents and devices.

The probe head and probe tool settings on the Machine tab are saved in the inspection document (.pwi) file, so you do not need to respecify the details each time you open it.

If you create inspections for CNC or Manual machines and want to use the same settings with different documents or on different measuring devices, you can export the settings to a definition (.prd) file, and import them to a different document.

To export the current settings to a file

  1. In the Machine tab, click Export.
  2. In the Save As dialog, enter a name for the settings file.
  3. Click Save to close the dialog.

The settings are saved in a .prd file.

To import settings from a file

Note: The .prd file is not updated automatically when you change the probe settings. If you update settings, re-export them to file and then re-import them into the documents where they are used.
  1. If you are importing the probe database from a measuring device, use the Export button to create a backup of the current settings.
  2. In the Machine tab, click Import. The Open dialog is displayed.
Note: If a warning message is displayed, click Yes to replace the current settings.
  3. Select the .prd file that contains the settings you want to use.
  4. Click Open. The settings in the .prd file are applied to the document, and are displayed in the Machine tab.

To specify the default settings for new documents

  1. Specify the settings you want to use as the defaults.
  2. In the Machine tab, click Save as Machine Defaults.

This saves your settings to a default.prd file, which is automatically loaded each time you create an inspection document.
