To create geometric features from the CAD model

Use the Wireframe Checker to create geometric items by selecting features from the CAD view.

  1. Display the model of the part you want to inspect in the CAD view.
  2. Choose Home > Mouse Context > Wireframe Checker.
  3. Right-click the CAD view and choose a picking mode from the menu. Select:
    • Tolerances to specify the sensitivity with which the Wireframe Checker analyzes and identifies features on the CAD model.
    • Surface to pick CAD surfaces. If the surface is part of a complex 3D feature, PowerInspect extracts the feature's details.
    • Wireframe to pick complex 2D features. For example, when you pick a slot, PowerInspect extracts the arc at each end and the line on each side. You can also use this mode to select arcs (circles).
    • Simple Wireframe to pick a single component from a complex 2D feature, such as the arc at the end of a slot. You can also use this mode to select arcs (circles), lines and points.
    • Points to pick a point on the CAD model. If you pick two points, PowerInspect constructs a line; if you pick three points, PowerInspect constructs an arc.
    • GD&T to pick items from CAD models containing GD&T information.
  4. Left-click the CAD view to close the menu.
  5. In the inspection sequence, select the geometric group in which you want to create the item. If no geometric group is selected, PowerInspect creates a group and adds the item to it.
  6. In the CAD view, move the mouse pointer over the feature you want to inspect. When the feature is highlighted in yellow, left-click to select it.
  7. To view or change the item nominals, select the Features tab; to view or change the reference item and type of item you want to create, select the Geometry Explorer tab.
  8. Click in the Features tab or the Geometry Explorer tab to add the item to the inspection sequence.
  9. To create another item, repeat these steps.
