Offsetting objects with a discontinuity

To specify how to treat discontinuities when offsetting surfaces, select one of the following options from the Offset toolbar:

• Always create an offset surface preserves any discontinuities in surfaces during surface offset creation:

  

• Split surface at discontinuities splits the surface at discontinuities during offset creation. The offset surface will be a solid, even if you started with a surface.

  The edges at the discontinuities are extended until they intersect:

  

  A solid is created from the set of offset surfaces:

  

  A discontinuity in a surface normal is defined by the Angular tolerance value in the Surface Discontinuity Tolerance section on the Units and Tolerance page of the Options dialog.

Note: Primitive surfaces are automatically converted into power surfaces.

If a curve or composite curve is dependent on a surface, its offset will lie on the surface.
