Creating a spun profile

Use the Spun Profile option to create turned profiles of models in PowerShape. This supports the turning capability in PowerMill.

To create a spun profile:

  1. Select the model from which the spun profile will be created, for example:

  2. Click Wireframe tab > From Selection panel > Spun Profile.

The Spun Profile dialog is displayed:

and the principal plane around which the model will be spun is displayed:

In this example, the principal plane is Z.

You can change the principal plane around which the model is spun to any axis of a local or global workplane, and Preview multiple times.

  3. Change the principal plane to X, and click Preview to display a preview of the spun profile:

The spun profile curve is displayed in yellow.

  4. If required, select the way in which the spun profile is closed from the following:
    • Close along axis — to close the curve along the axis of the principal plane:

    • Close perpendicular to axis — to close the curve perpendicular to the axis of the principal plane:

    • Select both of these options to close the curve both along and perpendicular to the axis:

  5. Click OK to accept changes and close the dialog, or click Cancel to cancel unapplied changes and close the dialog.
