About Buildingbook Calculation Types

Learn more about building part selection and calculation through calculation types.

At the top of the dialog, the calculation Family and Type is listed. The default type displays as Standard. You can create, rename, and delete calculation types.

All settings which are made in the Calculate Room Quantities dialog are saved in the currently selected calculation type. Please note however, that project standard calculation settings are not stored in the type.

The following table contains the parameter definitions of the Calculate Room Quantities dialog.

Name Description
Standard
Standard Displays the current project standard.
Selection See
Selection Method Select one of the following two methods:

Filter elements on dialog (default): Select building part categories to include in the calculation.

Select Graphically in project: Select the building part categories graphically in the project. This enables the Graphically selected elements tool below.

Category, Family and Type Filter Click the ellipsis to filter category, families and types to calculate. The default selection is All. If three or less categories are selected, the names are displayed. If more are selected, a number displays.
Level Filter Filter building parts to calculate by project level with the Levels dialog.
Graphically selected elements Click the ellipsis to open the Select Graphically in Project dialog, which displays the count of selected building parts. This tool is only enabled when specified in the Selection Method tool above.
Range
Considered Detail Level Specify which level of detail used to calculate building part quantities. Either Medium or Fine.
Consider for windows/doors

Select the parameters for Height/Width that are used for calculation in the View/Edit dialog and the export files. Select fom one of the following three methods:

Height/Width: If some families use Height/Width and others use Rough Height/Rough Width, Buildingbook lists the sets used.

Rough Height/Rough Width: Select this setting when you are using both Height/Width and Rough Height/Rough Width, but Rough Height/Rough Width is used for wall openings and Height/Width for window/door sizes.

Geometry based Height/Width: Select this option when Revit reports incorrect dimensions for windows and doors. Buildingbook calculates the correct dimensions for those cases. These may be different than what Revit reports. See About Geometry Based Height/Width Calculation

Consider existing parts When you select this option, existing parts are considered in the calculation. If it is cleared, the original elements are calculated. These parts are created with the Revit command Create Parts.
Reverse doors stop left-right detection Select this option to reverse the door stop position. Buildingbook detects the door stop position, but some country standards require that the reported door stop position is reversed.
Consider wall wrap Select this option to consider Revit-defined wall wraps in the calculation. If you clear this option, wall wraps will not be included in the calculation.
Consider structural deck layers Select this option to consider structural deck layers in the calculation. If you clear this option, structural deck layers will not be included in the calculation.
Generate project Data per Material
Generate project Data per Material

Enables Buildingbook to calculate building part quantities and material data when exporting information for Revit schedules or Design Web Format. When selected, the following categories can be calculated.

Category Filter Specify the categories to include material data in building part quantity calculation. Activating this option affects performance. Activate it only if it is required. For more information, see Generate Project Data.
Export
Export Format Selects the format in which to export the building part quantity data. Either MS Excel or CSV.
Export Template (Excel export format only). Specifies the excel template file to use when exporting building part quantity data. The visible template files are dependent on the project standards.
Include Picture (Excel export format only). Includes a picture of calculated windows and door in the Excel file.
