Change the Identity Data of a Material

To change the general information associated with a material in a project, modify options on the Identity tab in the Material Editor panel of the Material Browser. This tab provides general information about the material, such as a description, manufacturer, and cost data.

Note: Materials do not display in wireframe views.
  1. Click Manage tabSettings panel (Materials).
  2. In the Material Browser, select the material to change in the project materials list.
  3. In the Material Editor panel, click the Identity tab.
  4. Edit the parameter values as necessary.
    Parameter Description
    Descriptive Information
    Description Description of the material. This value displays in material tags for elements.
    Class Type of the material.
    Comments User-defined comments or other information about the material.

    If the value is Render appearance not upgraded, assign a new render appearance to the material. See Change the Appearance of a Material.

    Product Information
    Manufacturer Name of the manufacturer of the material.
    Model Model number or code assigned to the material by the manufacturer.
    Cost Cost of the material.
    URL URL of the Web site for the manufacturer or vendor.
    Revit Annotation Information
    Keynote Keynote for the material. Enter text or click the button to select a standard keynote.

    Mark User-defined identification number for the material.
    Note: When you enter search text to find a material, Revit searches the values of all identity parameters for all materials. Also, you can include most of these parameters in a material takeoff.
  5. To save the changes to the material, click Apply.
  6. To exit the Material Browser, click OK.
