Video: Create a Swept Blend

Use the Swept Blend tool to create a 3D form based on two 2D profiles and a path segment.

This video demonstrates the following:

  1. Understand methods to create a swept blend.
  2. Sketch the path for the swept blend.
  3. Define the profile for the sketched blend.
  4. Edit a swept blend.
Note: This video was recorded using Revit 2017. When using a newer software release, you may notice differences in functionality and user interface.

A swept blend creates a 3D form based on two 2D profiles and 1 path segment. The path can be curved or a spline, but it must be one segment. The 3D form is created by blending the 2 profiles along the defined path. To create a swept blend form, select the Swept Blend tool. A path must first be created for the swept blend form. A path can be sketched or picked, based on existing lines or edges of geometry that already exist in the project.

In this case, the path for the swept blend will be sketched using a spline. Work planes are automatically generated at the beginning and end points of the path. The work planes are used for placement or sketching of the profile that will be used for the swept blend. Once the path is complete, click finish.

Profiles can be defined by first selecting which profile is being worked on. Then a profile can be selected, loaded, or edited. Once the profile is complete, click Finish. Then, the other profile is created and finished.

Once the path and the 2 profiles are defined, the swept blend is finished. The swept blend can be modified by selecting it in the canvas and clicking Edit Swept Blend on the ribbon. The path or the profiles can then be modified. Edit the material or the visibility parameters of the swept blend form from the Properties palette.
